Birthday Party Etiquette Tips from Tea Time and Tiaras

Proper party etiquette is important whether you are the party host or simply a guest. Here are some easy tips to remember the next time you throw or attend a birthday party:

INVITATIONS
Party Thrower: Typically invitations should be mailed out 2-3 weeks before the main event. Make sure to give your guests enough time to RSVP and fit the party into their schedule.
Partygoer: Take the time to respond to an invitation. Even if you cannot attend the party, let the host know so they can have an accurate final count.
GUESTS
Party Thrower: Make sure you have extra cake and food for guests. You may think supplying food for the exact amount of guests attending will do but you never know if a sibling or extra adults will attend. And have a few extra goody bags on hand too!
Partygoer: Less is best! There is nothing worse than a children’s birthday party where there are 3 or 4 adults per child. Try to leave the siblings at home and if you must bring them along, make sure it is alright with the party host.
PUNCTUALITY
Party Thrower: Begin the party at the time that it says on the invitation. No one enjoys waiting around for a party to start especially children.
Partygoer: There is no such thing as fashionably late for a children’s birthday party so make the effort to arrive on time.
THANK YOU’s
Party Thrower: So many people ask if Thank You notes are important and the answer is Yes! Not only does it teach your child the importance of being appreciative; it also enforces good manners.
Partygoer: Take the time before you leave to thank the parent and the birthday girl or boy for inviting you to the party. After all, they put so much hard work into the party that a little “thank you” will go a long way.
